What does the term multimedia involve? |
| Ans. |
|
The very word ‘multimedia’ means more than one medium. Typical multimedia projects include the use of visuals, moving images, audio, written content etc. Multimedia serves as a vehicle to make learning and
information engrossing. Multimedia meshes the use of text, graphics, animation, audio (sound/music), and video. Television is a typical multimedia application. Learning through multimedia courses is also very effective since the learning becomes fun and is reinforced by the animation and audio. |

| Q4. |
|
My cousin told me e-learning has a lot of potential - what is this? |
| Ans. |
|
E-learning or electronic learning is learning enabled through multimedia -either online or through a CD.
The student needs access to a computer and e-learning uses a combination of animation, static images,
relevant content to teach all kinds of subjects and topics. Most WBTs (web based trainings) and CBTs (computer based trainings) also have some kind of scoring system at the end to gauge how well a student has learned and assimilated the learning. This becomes a tool to measure performance and becomes part of many corporate appraisal systems. E-learning can be replicated with consistency over a wide geographical area quite easily and at much less cost than typical classroom training. |

| Q5. |
|
What is the difference between cell animation and computer animation? |
| Ans. |
|
Cell animation is a traditional method of animation where each frame is laboriously hand drawn and shows a tiny part of a movement in the scene. These frames are transferred on to a thin, transparent sheet of plastic called a cell or cellulose acetate. Then these different frames are photographed. When the film is run- usually at 24 frames a second, it looks as if actual movement is taking place.
Computer animation relies on software to do much of the tedious tasks associated with traditional animation. For e.g. in 2D animation, the computer is used to generate moving images. The animator will draw just key frames or main movements of a person or object. The frames in between will be generated by the software program through a series of calculations in a process known as tweening or morphing. |
